Mrs. Lowe

Hello, my name is Mrs. Lowe. This will be my fifth year teaching at Austin Middle School! I graduated from Kennesaw State University with a degree in Art Education in May of 2006 and later graduated with a master's in Curriculum and Instruction at Nova Southeastern University.  I love teaching middle school students and I could not imagine doing anything else.  I am extremely excited for the 2011-2012 school year and can't wait to see amazing student art!
As a teacher, I have the opportunity to make a difference and change the future for each of my students.  My wish is for my students to have the hunger to learn and see the relevance of art in their daily lives.  Although this may be a challenge, I will commit all of my energy and resources to make this a reality.
I love teaching the history of our world through art.  Art's interdisciplinary reach explores literature, math, history, geography, sociology, science, cultural studies and many more subject areas.  I like to compare the discipline of art history to a family history recorded in a photo album.  Sometimes art objects, like our family photographs, are all that remain of a culture.  Art images throughout history could be described as documenting the timeline of a human family album!
An excellent teacher is not just someone who explains, not someone who demonstrates, but one who inspires.  Art is a subject in which we can inspire and help ignite the imagination!  I will share my love of learning and I hope to inspire my students to discover their creativity, imagination and success in the classroom!
Sincerely,
